Food Junction Video

Another amazing footage of our Officer LUA SHENG LONG

Food Junction Thoughts

The food junction was a blast!

I personally enjoyed this one alot because of the food and the company also, and to see all of us like running around in Geylang. I am not sure how many of you felt uneasy on the eyes of the "uncles" and "aunties" that was there.

But I believe it was a good education for all of us as young people, that even though we do not see them "special kind of uncles and aunties" does not mean that they do not exist in our society.

But more importantly, I will not judge them, I do disagree with what they do, but I do not know what are their circumstances and the reason behind why they do what they do.

In many ways I thought then about my life and the different people that I have as friends.

I have friends at my age, deep into gambling (buying 4d & toto $ soccer betting), drinking and even visiting prostitutes. We still do meet up off and on and of course me being the "holy" one will always advise against all these. But the cool thing about them is, they know where I come from even though i always nag at them and very much so accept them as my friends.

So in ending a piece of advice, before we start labeling people around us lets extend a listening ear and a helping hand instead of just letting them be! Cos we never know how the person will turn out to be 10 years from now.

Personally when I read this I teared. Cos I am guilty of it all the time.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in
front of him.

'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked.
'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.

'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.

' Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Wisdom Words #2

One night, at 11:30 p.m.., an older African American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960's. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance! e and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attac hed.

It read:
'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away... God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others.'

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.

MST time?

Hello Primers,

I know it is that time of the year where all of you are buried into books,
its is already thursday and some of you are already finishing your papers, but I came across an email post which is very touching for me. So here it is.
I will post one part of it each day for the next 5 days.
So think about it and just do a short reflection of your life eh?

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:

'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?'
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

'Absolutely, ' said the professor. 'In your careers,
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say 'hello.'

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

We will also be giving out awards like The Most Challenging Event, The Best Night Event and also The Most Significant Event etc and many more during the event.

Besides that, Violet and Jack-Jack (from Fam'R'Us Camp) will be presenting to us their award winning skits! Oh, the committee will also be performing the Mass Dance(We're All in This Together)!

More importantly for Primers from / not from POC 2008, this is a good time for you to show your support, love and affection for your GLs, AGLs and seniors!

Get your placards ready and see you there!

New School, New Course, New Module

Yes, I have graduated from Singapore Polytechnic and I am now studying something a little different. I have been registered into Tekong School 1 and my course is Basic Military Training. Some of the training includes physical training, standard obstacle course, weapon handling, individual field craft, bayonet fighting, and many more. There are also a few test for us like IPPT, Situational Test, 24Km route march and many more.

I have yet to know my class, or known over there as company, and I have also no idea who my classmates are. The schooling days are from Monday to Saturday, sometime having additional lesson called guard duties over the weekends. School starts very early, about 5.30 and ends in the evening about 9. Since the school is far away from home, they have provided chalets for us to stay over during the weekdays. Since we are staying over, they also allowed us to wash our own clothes and clean our own room.

After my first 3 months, I will graduate and be moved into other courses. Such courses include SISPEC, OCS, Armor, Combat Engineers and many more. Well, I hope I can do well for my new course and proceed on to a course of my choice.

Well I won’t be seeing you guys for sometime so do take care. I’ll come visit all of you soon once I’m out of my confinement period. Till then, take good care and enjoy all the events installed for you! I’ll miss all of you!

With Lots of Love,

Rec Vimel

What's Family?

The tagline of SP.Primers, “Youth today Leader tomorrow” really applied to me. Like all of you, I started off as a freshman during last year’s POC. My first event was the BBQ but I still didn’t know a lot about Primers yet. Out of curiosity I decided to join POC since there was no harm done. I was just someone who just got out from secondary school, but look at me right now, Deputy Camp Commandant of Fam’R’Us @ POC 08.

Everything all started one night where I suddenly received a call from Huishan. I still remembered that night where she asked if I was interested to be the Deputy Camp Commandant for POC. I got the wrong idea that it was Assistant Group Leader! Until she mentioned the word again then I realised the BIG difference. I couldn't help but shouted in the phone "O MY GOD!" and before I knew it, she was giggling on the other side.

So that was how it all started. Then during that same week I met up with Paul, the camp commandant for the very first time. And soon we began our weekly camp meetings with the rest of the committee during the holidays. The journey of planning POC wasn’t smooth sailing at all as most of us were new and inexperienced. However we managed to struggle and 3 months down the road we were running the actual camp! Though there were still some humps throughout the camp but I believed the camp was a success which is impossible without the help of each and everyone in Primers.

This brings me to the point that Primers is a FAMILY. I have to say the experience of planning POC really brought all of us together, as one family. You might not feel this strong feeling of family as I am right now but I’m sure in time to come you definitely will. So join us for more Primers events and I’ll guarantee you will not regret it.

And this whole experience really made me “grew up”. I don’t know how to express myself exactly but I do know that this is a one of a kind experience. Of course I have to thank the seniors and officers who guided me cause without them I definitely won’t be where I am right now.

Thanks again to everyone who made POC a success and I’ll see you guys more often in the future. (:

With tons of gratitude,
Benjamin

Thoughts On POC 08 [Lisa Simpsons]

I've enjoyed myself a lot in this camp as all the activities are fun and engaging (without a moment of rest!! Haha :P) The games made individual group bond well with each other and I find it very effective as I really got to know more about my team mates.

I also want to thank both of my GLs - Derrick and Angela! They encouraged us to go on and set a very positive attitude. They are also very supportive in whatever we do and are good in guiding us along the way.

Appreciate all the efforts that you guys have put in :)

Cheers,

An Enjoyable Camp! [Wilma Flintstones]

POC 2008 was really enjoyable! Ask any one of my camp mates in Wilma and I bet they will say the same too. It was indeed better than the other camps that I’ve attended previously. Why? It’s because many of the games that we had played required teamwork and trust with the other members of the group which I can’t find from the other camps. I guess the seniors must have spent a lot of time trying to come up with games which are both fun and at the same time, beneficial for us.

I’ve truly gained a lot from these 3 days 2 night’s camp. The camp had really made me felt like I’m part of the big PRIMERS FAMILY. To me, 3 days 2 nights was really not enough for us. I would definitely sign up for other Primers camps as I am sure that it would definitely be as fun as POC!

Lastly, I want to thank our GL (Chaiyun) and AGL (Steven) as they had really done a great job in leading us to bond together as a group. If there is any chance, I would want to be a GL too! (=
