I really urge you to come and hear this guy live on stage and see what he has to offer.

His session will start 1.30pm on 2nd Dec at the Max Pavilion, Singapore Expo hall 10
So come and join us all.

So Amazing!

Hi Primers,

Once again our video slide show is here again. This time we will be featuring the Amazing Race. Hope you all remember the fun and joy we had during the event!

GO!GO!GO!

The Amazing Race was simply indeed remarkable. This race was highlighted on the last day of RIO camp so therefore I felt it was pretty interesting. Hence, I decided to join this AMAZING RACE event held by SP.PRIMERS, and I was in HuishAn’s group.

Together with the group, we managed to go through the whole race. The 3 destinations within our campus served not just as a warm up of us but also served as a platform for us to get to know one and another better.

That day, our group had been through a lot of unforgettable memories like

  • For the detour in Krangi, we need to memorize the whole red line track from Jurong East to Marina Bay and say it aloud to our group leader.
  • Followed by throwing & code breaking in CCK Lot 1.
  • Collection of candy & newspaper in Blk 218.
  • Searching for finding the shop named ‘Trendious’ and we had our lunch there.
  • Ten Mile Junction – The gathering of stuff exactly $35.50.
  • Counting of green beads beside Pending CC.
  • Bukit Panjang Plaza to look for a wanted person (Not feMALE).
  • The advertisement filming on courts in Bukit Timah.
  • Ice-Kacang-ing in Beauty World Centre.
  • Lastly the climbing of Bukit Timah Hill Reserve.

These missions/tasks helped in strengthening the bond between us. Most importantly, team spirit and teamwork helped us to complete this Amazing Race. During this period, we encountered some difficulties. However, we still managed to overcome it by encouraging each other to proceed further on.

Children See Children Do

This video so accurately explains what I believe in real education. Many times we think of education as just books and exams, but true education revolves around life's examples. How we react, how we feel, our thinking patterns are very much influenced by the people around us. And for me this is a reminder of how closely I need to watch my own life. I certainly do now want my children growing up to be violent, hot headed, without discipline...etc rather I want him/her to be a man/woman of good character. And it really has to start with me.

It is also a very sobering thing for us officers, as this illustrate what we are really trying to impart into the Primers, which is our lives!
Scary it may be that hundreds of people are looking at us and how we behave but we are trying out best to impart the right values!!

Officers, jia you bah and for the Primers, you guys learn whatever good that we have to offer, we are into building the leaders of tomorrow!

Cherish!

RIO camp is definitely the camp that I have benefited from it. It was really a worthwhile experience participating in it. The long queuing hours for the bathroom, the limited sleeping space, the door-less cubicles, these are all the experiences I get from Pulau Ubin. And of course, the chuckey chuckey game was a fun-filled one where all members of my group got to interact and play with each other.

During the 3 days camp I learnt a lot about what we usually do not see in urban areas. I also understand what it is like to cherish what we have at the moment. I somehow feel very happy whenever I see that smile on auntie xiuying. Her warm and gentle smile really makes us feel at home. We can see that she’s also appreciative in life so we should follow and do not easily take things for granted in life.

Well, the last thing I want to say is to really thank the camp committee for organizing this camp. It was really hard work to plan a camp outside of Singapore and with such a great amount of campers. For this, I really appreciate the efforts that the committee has put in, such as giving us the Ben and Jerry ice-cream, the ‘deal or no deal’ game and not forgetting our own famous dancing diva, Jeffery =P. Thank you very much people!

The Differences!

RIO camp helps me to know more of my teammates even more than before. The environment that we are staying in is way so different from our life now but most of us managed to adapt to the living conditions over there. Throughout this camp I also learnt about our different individuals and the learning style of my group mates. Through this, we get to appreciate one and another more.

These 3 days we managed to know each other capabilities like cooking and so on. During the photo hunt game, I felt that our group won because our team was able to work closely together and each of us cooperated in one way or another. Though we were faced with some difficulties for some stations, we managed to overcome it.

Sanguine Rocks!

On 26 Oct – 28 Oct 2007, I went on the RIO Camp @ Pulau Ubin.

Day 1:
We assembled at the jetty at around 8pm and set off on a ferry to the island. It only took a few minutes to reach there, so you can image that it wasn’t very far from the mainland Singapore. When we arrived at Pulau Ubin, we board a van which could accommodate 12 of us excluding the driver. It than took us to Aunty Siew Eng house, which is one of the rare houses down the dark and bumpy road. There were 3 dogs and few cats in the house. Aunty was smiling widely and welcoming us. We than went to the “Tree House” to put our belongings. The “Tree House” was all made of wood and the walls had some ants’ hive with no ants. The toilet below the “Tree House” really stinks as there’s no proper sewage. After putting down our bags at the “Tree House”, we assembled back at the “hall” for some briefing. We than had some ice-breakers to get to know each and everyone in our group. My group has 10 people including Steven, my GL cum cluster head, Chai Yun, Nicholas, Melvin, Kenneth, Galvin, Winston, Sebastian, Wai Mun, my group mates and me. After ice-breaking, we had to write our life journey on a quarter piece of a mahjong paper. Kenny came to share his life journey with us too. It was a time to get to know each other better and understand what each group members had been through before. After that, we had ice-cream bread for supper as a cluster and had our first lights out at 1.30am after washing up.

Day 2:
Rise and shine @ 9am for our breakfast. My cluster had cereals of 4 different flavours. It was tasty but not filling. I think it will taste even nicer if the milk was cold. Kekex. After our breakfast, we assembled at the “hall” and had a personality test, “Singsapiration” and played “Lau Ying Zhua Xiao Ji” direct translated to be Eagle catch chick. The aim is to have the longest line. I think the objective of the game is to warm us up for the up coming game, “PHOTO HUNT”. In the game of “photo hunt”, we were given a photo of the place we have to go and complete a task. My group’s first challenge was to hold a hula hoop with only one finger of each member to the height that our GL wants. We took about 5 min to finish the task I guess and proceed to our next station. Our next challenge was to cross over a few obstacles and reach the finishing line with our legs tied together at a given time. We only completed this challenge at our second attempt. Our third challenge was the traffic jam where we were split into 2 groups and each group had to cross over to the other side without talking and any hand signals. We took quite a long time at that station. Besides that, we also had to memorise the ‘BB Vesper’ and sing it out. Our next challenge was the “chocolate river” where we need to lay the “marsh mellows” (newspaper) on the “chocolate river” (ground) and cross over to the finishing line. We need to hold on to the “marsh mellow” while we cross the “river”. It was quite an easy task so we didn’t take a long time to complete it. After that, I was blind folded and had to complete the next challenge which was the “100 seconds no NG” with my group mates. My job was to memorise and recite 2 lines as I couldn’t do any other things. After that, Kenneth was blind folded instead of me as Steven forgot that he was suppose to blind fold a male and not a female. Our next challenge was the mine sweeper. Everyone of us had to over to the other end without stepping on the mines. It was also another easy task for us and thus we complete it and headed back to aunty Siew Eng house, which was the finishing point. My group came in 2nd for this game. Through this game, we became slightly more bonded and we realized that every member’s participation is very important in order to have fun and complete the game. If each individual is very strong but they can’t work together, the team will still fail to complete the challenge as there’s no team work in the group. After the photo hunt, we had a sharing session and our dinner. We had rice, chicken curry, hot dogs and luncheon meat prepared by vimel’s group. After dinner, we had a GALA Night where every group had to perform a skit on a given tag line. Our group had to perform on a tag line “umbrella”. The camp committee also participated in the GALA Night with the game called “Deal or No Deal”. It was a fun and enjoyable night. Thereafter, everyone washed up and some of us continued to play and chat until 4am as we were allowed to stay up late till 4am.

Day 3:
We had our breakfast at 8am till 9am before we had another sharing session with Kenny. His speech was really long. He kept on saying ‘5 more min’ and ‘last but not least’. He also showed us a video on one of the Cambodia Trips. It was very touching to see all the Cambodian kids smiling happily. I guess it was really a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience for those Primers who went there. After Kenny’s speech, we took a few more photos and boarded the van to the jetty where we than took a few RIO’07 photos and headed back to Singapore in the ferries. I really had fun in this camp and enjoyed being with my group mates.

With Love,

----

Hey every1,

Been a long time since I wrote here :P
(Nagged by our Publicity head and Kenny)

Anyway, I believe everyone that went for RIOcamp definitely experience a camp of their life staying in a "5 star" accommodation like what we had. Please share your experiences to those who cannot make it for RIOcamp so that they will not feel left out okie?

So, why did I put "1" as the reason of the success of RIOcamp?

The "1" represents the individual that chose to make time to come for this camp. The RIOcamp planning committe planned a great camp, but without the many "1"s coming, this camp will not be a success at all.

Even if the attandance is only "1" for RIOcamp, we will still run the camp as how we run it, cuz every single "1" matters.

Love,
Yaohan

PS: If you got more numbers, put in tagboard so that i can update.

Thank You Primers!

When I heard there was a camp, RIO camp. I thought to myself, what will this camp be about? Will it be fun? What will I learn from the camp? I decided to go for the camp and find it out myself. When I told my parents that I wanted to go for the camp, they disapprove of it at first as my brother will be coming back from Australia and we will be having dinner with him. After much persuasion, my parents finally allowed me to go for it. I was overjoyed and was on cloud nine. On the day when I had to hand up the money I was so happy that I could actually go for a camp that was organized by Primers as I was not able to go for the past few camps that were organized by them. When I saw the Primers blog on the entry that Huishan wrote about her experience of RIO camp, it made me really excited and I was looking forward to the camp. A few days before the camp, I was packing the camp bag as I was packing the bag I was thinking what does RIO means.

On the actual day of the camp, I was a little moody. But I told myself I am going to have fun at the camp and I am going to learn a lot of new things. When I finally reach Changi Village and said goodbye to my mother I could feel the excitement in me. I met many new friends, they were funny and sociable. As we were waiting for the boat we were telling each other lame jokes and when we finally reach Pulau Ubin I cannot help but to keep smiling. The committee members of Primers kept us ‘high’ and we did many reflection and session. It really made me learn about other people’s life and journey. I came to realize that in life everyone will meet obstacles and will know how to over come it. We all live in this kampong like house; I find it was good experiences for me as I have never live in those kinds of houses before. It was supper time, where everyone seat down together as a family to eat. One day has gone; everyone was preparing to go to sleep. The first day ended off good and I was looking forward to the next day.

Second day came, where we had to make our own breakfast and cook our own meals. I felt that it was something new in all the camps I went for. Seating down together as a family, eating together, laughing and joking made me felt a love coming from the group. When we had singsapiration I was really touched by all the songs and seeing everyone singing to the song and lifting their hearts up to God. Though it was raining, we still continued singing. Slowly the rain when away and became slight. The time had come for us to cook lunch; I was glad that I was able to contribute to the group by lending a helping hand. My group was a bunch of funny and interesting people, as we were cooking we were all laughing that we are cooking near the toilet. Each of us helps by contributing a bit to the cooking. I would say my group is a unique group, as we had 2 people who are vegetarian. Whenever my fellow group members made fun of them I would always see them smiling and playing along. After our cooking, we continue with our decoration of the flag and cheer, this point in time I could tell that everyone was cracking their brains and thinking of a nice and funny cheer. It was also like a bonding time together. When I hear and see each one of my group member giving suggestion I know that everyone is special and unique in their own ways.

The major highlight of the programme was photo hunt; I always love to run around doing obstacles and finding things. I feel like its very interesting and it was also a time where we can help each on of our team member during various obstacles and station. When we came to the station on the team building, where we had to tie our legs together and walk and coordinate as a group. I suddenly could feel the love and help from each member giving support to each other. We did not give up we tried over to make sure we did it. But, when something bad happen to me, I felt down and upset with myself. I started blaming myself that it was cause of me that they could not continue. When the injury got bad and I had to be sent to the hospital, in my mind I had images of the happy times I had with my group and Primers. Hearing the voice around me telling me to relax and encouraging me to be strong. I bear with the pain and hold on.

After various check up at the hospital, I was fully awoken up. The first thing that came across my mind is I would like to write this short story about Primers. Being in Primers made me realize and learn new things and how to overcome it. Whenever I am in Primers or with any of my group members I feel loved by each and every one of them. At the jetty that day when I was taking my bag, I could see from each of their faces each telling me to take care and be strong. Even though, I did not manage to go through the whole camp, but from the bottom of my heart I did enjoyed myself and learn a lot of things. I will be looking forward for other events. Thank you Primers. You make me loved.

I would like to thanks Huishan and Guo Jun and group members for helping through out the camp, and to all those who help me and carry me. I would like to also thank the others for your messages and your help care concern. Thank You!

I would like to thank the RIOcamp committee for helping me during the time of my accident.

I would also like to thank the Medic (Chi Foong & Meijun)

Lastly I would like to thank Yaohan and Kenny for your prayers.

With Gratitude
