Extend A Helping Hand And Care

it is important to extend a helping hand and gestures of love to show that we still care

The visit to Mr. Seah’s home was uneventful at first but as he shared his family situation, we were able to take a few learning points back with us… Mr. Seah’s home was rather well furnished and everything seemed like a normal Thursday evening, however, we found out that there was uncertainty in the near future for his family. Here are some of their worries that Mr. Seah shared with us. Firstly, his medication is one of his major worries as the cost of it is considerably high. Secondly, he still working but his company is re-structuring their working shifts which could mean that excess people are working on single shifts, however, it requires about four months to be confirmed. We also noticed that the family has gone through a lot after Mr. Seah’s diagnosis. Despite his worries, he still takes things positively.

This visit was both an enriching and an eye-opener for all of us. We realized that although Singapore is a well-developed country, there are many people who look normal like every one of us but are struggling to make ends meet. We are so much more blessed compared to these people, it is important to extend a helping hand and gestures of love to show that we still care in such times where the financial situation is rather unstable.

Never Take Your Health for Granted

I always have the impression that cancer patients are sickly and weak (blame those soap drama) but I was proven wrong. The patient that my group visited looks healthy and normal, just like most of us. She was very lucky that her cancer was diagnosed during the early stage so her condition can be kept under control by medication.

Her husband is the sole breadwinner and it wasn’t easy for him to cover both household and medical expenses. Despite of their financial difficulty, her family and her are very positive toward her condition. They did not grumble about how bad their situation was because they know that there are others out there who are in worst situations.

Of course, family plays a very important part too. With the help and moral support from the family members, it pulled her through the tough period. I felt that with family’s support and a positive mindset, it will help us to overcome whatever difficulties we met.

Lastly, we should never take our health for granted and really take care of our health. And yes, I finally realised the importance of going for a yearly checkup so that action can be taken early if anything goes wrong.

thanks.

with tons of SMILE,

JULI.(:

Community Service

Guys it is like 3 more days to freedom for most of u who are still struggling with your exams.
So in the midst of your exams we have this month long event called SGB, some of u have been helping out in the booth, opening and what have you. And in this season of giving, we as a family chose to give our time, sweat and even at times money to the poor and needy. But beyond that, as I was thinking, it is not so much that the recipients of our efforts that benefit more, rather it is us who are giving.

Think for just one moment, thru this journey of giving we have learnt much about the plight of those having cancer. Some of us are even going to visit some of them at their home and have a meal of sorts hearing what they have to go thru upfront. And I believe the more we know, the more we would be grateful for the things we have, our physical condition, our family situation and generally where we are right now.

So I do hope that as we serve, we will remember to learn and reflect on the different experiences in life.

Got a video to share, think about this message!

SRI LANKA a land of great beauty s located at the southern part of India. However, not a long time back, it was hit by the great tsunami which caused many people to suffer from it. hmm what are we going to do then?? Celebrate the Singapore Spirit!

This year's NDP was a very memorable day for me and my family, because it was the first time ever that we have been on a NDP as a family.
I must confess we as a family has never had a tradition to sit down together to watch NDP on tv, so for me to have 4 tickets to the actual show was a miracle in itself!

Well enough of me for now, I just wanted to show case some of the NDP photos that I have taken of the seniors and the actual show itself. I am proud of the seniors, as many took up the challenge to serve the nation in this capacity. It has not been an easy journey for all of them but they pulled through it all. Surviving the toughness of the training and even at times un-responsive audience. My salute to them. Singapore is proud of them and so are we as family. YOU GUYS RAWKS!

So coming back, its been a long long time since I was exposed to the various National show, sang by Sun Yan Zi, Kit Chan, Taufik and this year's Hardy but I really got into the mood of it all. (Oh by the way I love this year's song.) And I almost teared when I sang "count on me Singapore" & "Mahjula Singapura". I really did not realised how much I feel for Singapore until that day. I admit Singapore has been the best country that anyone can ever have as home!

I have been to many countries, in different continent and what that does to me is that I have learnt to be very appreciative of our country's political stability, economy, effeciency and racial harmony. I have been to countries that had wars due to different races, bad infrastructure, corrupt political systems etc. So even though I differ some of the government policies but I love my LAND! I also believe that I am here for a reason, to stay here be rooted here and in many ways be a blessing to the many neighbouring countries that we are near to.

I am not sure how much you know about MFA and what they are doing but as a nation we have blessed many neighbours with training centers for their government officials, advice on housing systems and even lending a hand in rescue work. I am proud of Singapore.

Now on a more mirco level then what cue can we take as a family from the direction of Singapore? We as a family are going to Sri Lanka to bless the land. hahaha, but more importantly I pray that we will "shine for Singapore" the way that we were meant to be. Doing our best and not just use Singapore as a stepping stone. I believe it is not by coincidence that we are born here in Singapore but we have a destiny and a role here. I am here to stay and do my best for Singapore, what about you?

Therefore I always encourage every youth that I meant to travel, so that they will see the world and compare us to "them" and in time to come, I believe we will appreciate this land that we all call HOME!

Hooray

Hooray! Poly50 is finally over and Team SP.Primers got the 51st ranking.

Yes, poly50 is a yearly event by the school where every CCA club is being invited to participate in this event. This year, the poly50 was in conjunction with the NDOC.
So many people have been wondering why we decided to take part in this event.
Initially, we thought that taking part in this event will entitle each runner with the poly50 T-shirt, just like last year. However, we are wrong; it is the helper for the event will get the free T-shirt, hahaha! So in the end, we formed 1 team of ten (: We are also being told that primers has been always wanting to take part in this poly50 for the past few year but due to some constraints, the idea of participating was dropped.Yeah, and this is the reason why we joined.

Our team started our training just one week before poly50. The first training was horrible; everyone was weakened down after running for the first 25 round. The second and last training is considered not bad partly because of the first training and we managed to complete it in 1hour 45min for 50 laps.

The day has arrived and everyone is gathered at primers room to do some preparation. Some hiccups here and there, but we managed to overcome it. Team Primers proceeded to Admin center to do some warm-ups before the race. When everything is ready, the race started. During the race, it’s more crowded than expected. Nevertheless, it’s very hard to find our teammates. We started to feel tired in the middle of the race, but we managed to race on due to the encouragement give to each other. We kept on reminding each other not to give up during the race.

And Team SP.Primers completed the race in 1hour 41min, 4mins better during the 2nd training, so let give a 3 Cheers for Team SP.Primers! The sense of accomplishment makes each and everybody of us very delighted after the race.

Running for this poly50, speed isn’t part of the main factors that we could complete the race, most importantly is the Sportsmanship and Teamwork among us.

Since we have already started the ball rolling for the poly50 race, I am expecting you all to run as Team SP.Primers for the poly50 next year. Haha!

Last but not least, I wanted to thank the Team Managers, Helpers and Medics for supporting us throughout the event, not forgetting the runners too, runners like Xiuli, Hueylee, Juli, Nicolas, Jeffery, Weiqiang, Sebastian, Junkai, Weihao, they put in a lot of effort in this race. Hahahaha!

Cheers,
Shi Jun

Something in my heart

For RIO camp I have got tons to share too.

Not sure on where to start hmm maybe on the part that I meet Kay on Friday in Primers room after my GEMS. We were so excited to go for the camp and the buying of the things. Kay is a supportive and an encouraging brother worthy of the title Cluster head.

Thus we set off with cluster B to buy the groceries at Bedok SingXiong. We grabbed and buy a lot of things. It was fun buying all those things as we decided on what to buy and what not to.

I didn’t knew that shopping for groceries can be of such fun because maybe I had not experienced that from my family, coming back to think of that would bring me to tears as I thought of the series of events that happened. It is not the big things in Life that satisfies and makes one being happy but rather the little concern that people had for you and the little things that you do with who you regard as good friends that counts.

There after, Kay and I went out to look out to find appreciation for our freshies but could not find. Then we went back and took a cab to Jetty where we saw that our freshies was already there. I gathered everyone in my group and did some calling before setting off to Ubin.

The first day was the warm out as we set the tone right as we shared more of the personal things in our lives. (Too private to share)

Then it was the second day of RIO, Camp still have to carry on that I was glad towards Kendric as he helps me with the food and the cooking. I was really affected by what has happened.I didn’t eat much during lunch as we didn’t cooked enough but guess what! It is a joy to give joy to others even when you are not that well. I have given my all to this camp and to cluster C because it is my family. Will a mother fight with her son for food? I believed she will rather starve herself than see her son starve. I am catching some this vision that Kenny and YaoHan have been trying to impart.

The second day of RIO was great and we had tons of fun especially with the girls and boys. In one of the station games, we had a lot of fun. It was the water bomb one as we battled with not our hands but our feets ya... Hahaha I still remember that it was really fun as everyone got muddy and we precede to the last station bare-footed.

Then it was the skit where I had to act as a mom, it was too funny, well at least everyone enjoyed themselves. Somehow in the middle of the skit something dropped (lol). The skit was the best I had for these 3 years and lastly for appreciation for the last day was great too. I love bamm-bamm and the RIO camp group. They are my angels.

3 Days and 2 Nights

3 days and 2 nights in Pulau Ubin. Time really flies when we were having so much fun. I got to experience what it was like to live in a different living condition, somewhat similar to a third-world country.

Although this camp was named as Rough It Out camp, it does not totally mean roughing it out. More of the times were on reflecting and sharing to enable us to understand ourselves inside out. For example during the first night, we were asked to share our past experiences. At that time, it had really got me to think back and reflect about the past, in which I had never done before.

It was great to get to experience living in a different living condition, where life still goes on without our ‘wants’, like the air-condition and the water-heater. I was told that in order to save electricity, people living there do not usually switch on the lights, and yet they can still figure their way out through darkness!

I also got to know more people throughout the camp (although half of the people from my group were my close friends!). We worked together to come with our group flag, our group skit, and our very own group name-7美 4帅 1妖怪! The station games required teamwork, especially the game in which we were blindfolded and were asked to form various shapes. Another game required us to tie our legs together and we needed to coordinate well with each other to walk together at the same time.

I believe that everyone had indeed enjoyed this camp! I look forward to the future primers event! And last but not least, 7美 4帅 1妖怪 rocks! 3 cheers for all! =)=)

My experiences (So much to share- final)

27th JULY 2008

This morning is a great morning for me, as I have a nice sleep and eventually I over-slept too. =p Quickly I go pack up my stuffs and wash up before going for breakfast. After the breakfast, we start to clean up the camp area as later we are going to return to our home sweet home.

Later, before we go, we gather together and listen to one of the officer about the NYAA briefing. During this time, we dance together with the popular demand “BUDIMAN” songs, cheer together and lastly end with the traditional BB vesper.

The vans have arrived. We get on to the van with our stuffs and memories too. Before we leave, I saw the UNCLE (husband or partner of AUNTY SUE?) waving on us. Suddenly I have that kind of feeling, he is like my grandfather. Last time when I leave from his house, he does the same action to me when I am sitting inside the car. Unfortunately he had passed away (1 year ago).

Well, we enjoy the sea breeze during our journey back to the Changi Jetty. The weather is just nice too. While we are waiting for the groups to reach Changi Jetty, we play our last group games among ourselves.

This time we use poker cards, the game is known as “heart attack”. I guess every one of us won’t forget the pain of being whacked by other hand, isn’t it?

My Experiences (so much to share part 2)

26th JULY 2008

It is a blur morning for me… I woke up and find that most of the people have already wake up and washed up too. I wash up and find that I need to take a shower (refresh my mind). That time there are still few people queue up for their turn.

The gathering time is around and eventually I have to rush for my shower. In the end, I go in the bathroom with two friends and bath together (sounds gay huh?) After that we have our breakfast. Our breakfast is pao and later additional 1 packet of Milo cereal. There are lots of pao and eventually the whole cluster A members cannot finish it.

Finally we play “watermelon” game and the forfeit of the loser must eat a pao… (good luck for those who is really full) We are actually having fun while trying to solve the problems too.

Then, our first activity of the day starts with the other part of ice-breaking game. This time we get to interact between each of us more and warm up our mood and spirit too. After that is the “singspiration” session. We sing and dance together. Later, the officer distributes us the paper clips and tells us about the story of a red paper clip. Throughout the story I have the motivation and spirit, to work out for my bright future. Later follows by the personality test. From the test I can know my own self clearer (personality). Thus, I can change myself to improve my weakness, make full use of my strength, and communicate well with other kind of people too.

Now it is the lunch time. I am one of them who help to prepare the lunch for everybody in Cluster A. Usually I seldom enter the kitchen and cook, and now I have to help to cook for 20-30 persons. Luckily there are some seniors and people who can cook well volunteer to help us. We cook macaroni as our lunch. Eventually an ordinary macaroni which we feel it is tasteless, we make it until delicious with our “secret recipe” soup. I do have fun too while I am preparing the lunch. =p The rest of people are busy with the design of flag while we are busy of our part too.

After lunch, we have our station games event. After listen to the briefing, we realize that before we can leave and proceed to the next station, we have to think a cheer first. This is the part which I hate because I am lazy to think… Finally, we just simply think one in order to get the “permission to leave”. We proceed to our next station by following the clue. After a long distance journey, we thought we reach the destination and so happy with it.

Later we only realize that we go to the wrong place and the actual place is at the other side. With no choice we have to walk back and go another way round. On the way we try to rush also as we saw the other group finishes their first station. Finally, we can keep on the track and the games go smoothly as well. We try to encourage the others during the game. Some of the group members also show their hidden talent too ( eg: some is good in thinking and some is good in reacting) We also learnt co-operation between the group members too. Eventually this event bond us better and we have fun through it.

After the station game events, we go back camp side to rest and meanwhile some of the groups are preparing for the dinner too. For my group we rest and start to discuss our performance for the Gala Night. It is the difficult time for us as most of us are really tired, and lack suggestion of ideas too. Luckily in the end we manage to come out with an idea.

However, we never continue to do further planning and we play games within ourselves (no mood to think more la, play first!) Watermelon, chucky, “catch rat”, “emperor” and many more….=) Later we have told that there are some problems with the preparation of dinner, so we decided to eat some cakes and cookies as our dinner.

Our dinner, the curry chicken will be reserved as our supper as the Gala Night presentation is around that time. We have to get ready for it.

During the last minute, we rush to plan our sketch and distribute the roles for every group members. Eventually we not even have a proper practice once before (we prefer LIVE show). When the event starts, our group become the lucky number 1 to start the performance. Before that we feel quite nervous but in the end we manage to perform our sketch as what we have expected (well at least everybody is laughing).

Thus, after the performance we are really happy with it. We also keep on laughing and having joy when the other groups are performing as well. After that we see a new super star born in our camp too – BUDIMAN ! BUDIMAN-Man-Man-Man….Well forever we wouldn’t forget him and his symbolize song ^^. In the end, the committee members are also involved in the performance too. I really appreciate them as they really put a lot of efforts to this camp. Last but not least, we also have our sweet flash back of memory when we saw our photos on the projector screen.

Later, we have our supper, which originally is our dinner. The curry chicken is tasty and I can feel the warmness when I eat it (first, for the effort from the volunteers; second, it is just a little bit SPICY) . After that we took some photos together and eventually we are free to do anything. I play card games with the group members and during that time we get to know each other better. During the lights-off time, we prepare ourselves to sleep. Tonight I can sleep much more better than the first night as I start to get used to it.

My Experiences (So much to share)

25th JULY 2008

Well, during an hour before 6.00 pm (gather time), I have done with my preparation and ready to go for this camp ! ( That time was very EXCITED, perhaps? =p) Firstly I met with some of my group members at Bedok and carry the food stuffs together with our group leaders to our destination, Changi Jetty by bus. (save $$)

Our stuffs do use up a lot of spaces and eventually we just treat the bus as “our own bus”. Later on we reach there and wait for the departure while meeting with the other primers members as well. Finally the boat arrived, and we took around 15 minutes of boat ride to reach Pulau Ubin. After that, we go to our camp base by van. During the journey, I am wondering where the camp base is and how it is look like. (curiosity) A nice built chalet or a base with tents?

Neither chalet nor tents, it is an old village house which is wooden-built. The committee members lead us to our sleeping place and put our stuffs there. Suddenly I have a feeling that I have come to a rural village. (the environment?) Our sleeping place is a double-story building, and we sleep at the upstairs. Girls sleep inside the rooms and guys sleep outside the rooms (well seems like is a little bit hard for the guys to squeeze in a small place for sleep….) During that time we see our toilet and bathroom for the first time too (OMG?)

It seems like very different than our home toilet and bathroom, I do feel surprised when I saw that, and we are going to use it during the next few days.
(can we get used to it?)

Then, we gather and listen for the briefing by the camp commander and the officer. They told us about the objectives of the camp and the condition swhich we will face during these 3 days. For me, I like to try different kind of experiences, so I feel rather exciting than upset.

Later, we have our ice-breaking game. It is very fun and we get to play with other group members. (I like to play with LOTS of people) After that, we have our session which is known as “Living Experience”. During this session we share our own living experience among the group members. I manage to listen different kinds of living experience from different people. I am also proud to share my own living experience as my background may not same with most of us. (because I am a Malaysian)
After all we have learn to respect other people and keep the secret of the others as well.

It is supper time. Our supper is instant noodle. For me instant noodle always the simplest food but yet is the most delicious food in the camp. Some more I am very hungry during this time. I do enjoy my supper and eat a lot. After that we have to get ready to sleep as the next day there are many more activities to carry on.

During the night I not really sleep well as I can’t get used to it. At first I thought the night will be cold and many mosquitoes, that’s why I choose to close myself with the sleeping bag. Later I find that is another way round, it is hot and the mosquitoes also don’t dare to go near us……(because too much Carbon Dioxide released =.=)

Celebrate what is right with the world!

I watched this video several months back , and I was changed!
Basically it speaks about how we have to change our view of the world, our mindset to one that always am able to see the beautiful things in life!
More importantly do we believe that in things that are mundane or just plain or boring, that there can be beauty in them.

In recent weeks, many things have been happening to the people around me, and these are things that hurt me. Seeing people feeling down and out and basically feeling life is not worth much, I began to worry, because life is fun. It is meant to be fun with full of hope and optimism basically LIFE is meant to be in fullness, ZOE(fullness of life).

Things happen for a reason, and there is no such things as coincidence whether it is something good or bad so we should not just brush it one side, but we then need to ask ourselves this question, how then should I view this situation in my life.
What good can come out of it?
I believe this video will help to answer that, which is to CELEBRATE WHAT IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD!

This is a long video about 22mins in total, do spend time to watch it! It is worth it.
Especially from 7:30min onwards.

BEST DEAL IN TOWN!!!

Where can you find a 2day/night, overseas (Pulau Ubin) camp for just 10buck?! All your 4 meals provided and make new friend?

RIO (rough it out) CAMP

Although it wasn’t a much roughed out experience for me personally. I realized that this isn’t a one man’s camp. Whereas, everyone gotta take care of one another and rough it out together, as a Primers Family.

This camp gave me an opportunity to share openly to my new family, allowing them to have a clearer understanding of me and also letting me know them better. Just like other camp, we have games, cheers, etc… But these were made secondary in the whole aim of this camp.

It is good, because it made me less competitive and allowing my mind to not be stressed up, instead, this camp to me was to just basically bond with my new family members.

An important value in Primers which I experienced is the, “nobody gets left behind attitude” aka “we will always wait”. What do I mean? On the first night, at Changi Ferry Terminal, we waited till everyone was there then we set of. It gets me a little irritated at first cause I’m not a very patient person.

It is through meals and activities that I realize the importance of that value. I personally am not a punctual person, but nevertheless, they waited. 1 or 2 times may be seen as bo bian (no choice) but it’s the every single time of waiting that made me know that this is truly from the love that is in Primers itself.

SO… isn’t this the best deal in town?

THANK YOU small FOR MAKING THIS A MEMORABLE CAMP

Once is Never Enough

This year's RIO camp was the second year for me. I'm hoping for a different experience and I certainly felt it.

Last year in 2007 as a freshie, I remembered that we're well fed by those seniors. They cooked the meals for us; give us ideas and lots more. However this year, as a year 2 for me, I tend to be more initiative. I get the feeling of what it is like to be a year 2 leading my juniors in year 1.

This year RIO camp was a memorable experience to me! By not knowing anyone in the group, I made friends with all of them after the 3 days. Credits to our group leader Wei qiang and senior Hui Shan who guided us throughout the 3 days.

They're the ones who are always there when we needed them and to pull the strings together. Not forgetting that our group is cooperative too! We never for once leave
each other on their own. If help is needed, we'll be there to provide help. That shows the bonding within our group.

If given another chance, I’ll gladly go to Palau Ubin again the next year. It's the same place every year, but I believe the experience differs each time. Well done primers!!!

Transformation

Primers’ RIO camp 2008 was indeed a memorable one! It is very different from the POC camp as this is more about roughing out mentally than physically.

Why?

There is not much game played as compared to POC but it had more sharing time sessions which not many camps have. During that period, many personal matters are shared among the circle and it stay within it forever. No one else gets to know, in this way, we learnt to respect each other by keeping the secret.

It makes me feel like I am part of the primers’ family.

Also this camp has been a great experience for me, I get to sleep in a hut with 80+ people. It feels quite scary at the start as it seems kind of unstable but after the first night I began to love that place.
That was the first time I am using drinking mug to scope up water from a tank to bathe. All these things may sound simple and ordinary but sad to say it is no longer or rather seen in today’s modern world.

Through this camp, I have learned to appreciate things even more, not to take things for granted.

The station games were fun too especially the part that we need to tie our legs up and walk as a group. It requires us to coordinate well as a team.

Moreover, the seniors are super good, super caring, hilarious and influential, and it is fun to be with them. They do not order you around in fact they ask you nicely whenever they need help. It makes me realized what primers really are. I love primers:D

Breakfast at McDonald’s

This is a good story and is true, read it all the way through until the end!

I am a mother of three and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology.

My last project of the term was called, 'Smile.'

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald’s one crisp March morning.

It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son.

We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside me as I turned to see why they had moved.

As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was ‘smiling’.

His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance.

He said, ‘Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend.

I held my tears as I stood there with them.

The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted.

He said, 'Coffee is all Miss’ because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes.

I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand.

He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.'

I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope.'

We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed.

I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn:

UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE

Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

Too quick to judge?

Don't Judge Too Quickly... We Won't. - video powered by Metacafe

I laughed out loud when I watched this video because I personally have experienced both sides of the story. In my journey in Primers, I have both mistaken someone's well intention act to be an lackadaisical character flaw and even I have been mistaken as someone who has been doing certain things without much care and concern. For that I have tried to change my personality and my communication skills.

Far more often nowadays, I have been at the end of a misunderstanding that I simply do not care. And I realised most of such misunderstandings were due to my inability to communicate better. Or that maybe people just cannot accept me as who I am. I will try my best to better as time goes by. Ha!

So in my journey of communicating and trying to understand others better, I always have a standing rule, I will reserve my perception of the person till much later, specifically one year later! Not that I will just take my time to get to know people, but I realised for me and my personality I need time to observe how friends around and the people I meet really are. This is also my piece of advice I give to anyone who really are seeking meaningful relationships. Time is the biggest factor in really knowing someone inside out.

So remember take time out to understand each other as that's one of our values in primers...waiting for one another. Whether it be giving the person time to grow and mature, or waiting for the person to open up to you so that he/she will be comfortable with you! Don't be so quick to judge rather always be open to the surprises of life!

Reflection for Night cycling

I consider Night Cycling as one of the most enjoyable events in Primers so far. To me, I really enjoy cycling and especially at night. People don’t usually have the chance to go all the way to Pasir Ris for just to cycle. I find it really amazing that the Leaders in charge are able to handle such a big group in the middle of the night. Of course, without their hard work to plan this event, it might not be as successful as it was.

There were some ups and downs during our group’s journey which we manage to overcome. Many of us were feeling sleeping when we just started our journey from Pasir Ris Park. Our excuse to our leader was that, “We studied very hard in school that’s why so tired!” Well, but we manage to get back into the track soon after we had some games at the track point. Although there were many other things I would like to share with you guys during the journey but to keep it short, we manage to arrive at our destination and everyone was happy!

The supper was just what we needed to fill our stomach for our trip back to Pasir Ris Park. We had Nasi Lemak. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMM! On our way back, our butt were hurting a lot and most of us couldn’t stand the pain. But we still persevered and reach our destination safe and sound.

I feel that this event was nicely done by our leaders. They did a great job. The participants had also put in much effort to complete the whole journey with much perseverance. Finally, we have to thank the people who took the double bike, ‘Couple Bike’ What made this trip successful too was them. Knowing that their teammates could not cycle, they volunteered to rent a double bike so that their teammates are able to participate in this event.

BTW, thank you Huishan for being such a wonderful leader! Don’t have to thank me. (=

Night Cycling Reflections 4

Night cycling for me was the first event I took up in primers. For me it was consider an achievement because throughout the whole process of planning I learnt a lot of things. Seeing the effort put up by all of the committee member made me have the edge to run this event even better. Although it was a long journey of cycling especially at the change connector but I can see that every group manage to cycle and complete the whole route for the night cycling. The effort they put in and the teamwork between them pushing one another to cycle was totally excellent.

I hope that those who make their way down for night cycling will find that this event was a wonderful one and maybe a memorable one for each and everyone. Especially all the committee members, you guys really did a good job in everything you done. =D

Night Cycling Reflections 3

This was the first time i took part in night cycling.
To describe it, I would say that it was indeed tough.

During the event, it was quite depressing to realise an upsetting truth. I realised that I may be a burden to the group. In the begining, my mates had told me to cycle in front of them. However, I felt quite stress to cycle in front of them. This was because when I could not balance well enough to avoid crashing onto someone else bike, the instant message from my brain was "Braked!" And when I braked, mates behind would have to stop. They will then tell me not to brake that often. I really wanted to tell them, I really would not stop if I can. But the problem is, I cannot. I cannot balance well.

However, no matter how many times i had braked. My mates still did not give up on me and had encouraged me to move on. This make me felt blessed and i'm thankful for what they did.

I'm glad that I had participated throughout the journey and did not give up half way through.

To others, night cycling may not be as tough. But as a cyclist for only the second time, the effort needed to put in was definitely double of others and therefore, my sense of achievement was thus so much more than you can imagine.

Cluster A; Ng Huiqi.

The idea of having a night cycling event did not appeal much to me when my POC gl first told me of cycling is more of a torture then a fun casual activity. However, I was soon proved wrong when I arrived at the allocated location

While waiting for our fellow group members to arrive, we played ice breaking games, from chucky all the way to the concentration game. This broke the invisible barrier between people I do not know and allowed us to engross ourselves in lively conversations

The cycling part went out smother them what I had initially imagined and the only girl of the group, Stef led the front, motivating other members of the group to do their best and making us dub her “Energizer” for the amount of power and energy she has.

When we came to the mid-point of the course, we settled down for nasi lemak and this is energized everybody for the return trip. At this point of time, we shared personal stories on why we entered poly or primers as well as our personal goals and interests, this further bonded us together and have some conversations while cycling back to the starting point.

Overall I felt that this event is a great success and the GLs/AGLs/GMs and organizers have done a great job in organizing this event and this has changed several views of certain events and made me look forward towards to the next upcoming Primers! Event

Cheers

What you thought about life?

This is a very good presentation of what life is all about, and funnily as I was younger with my angst, I felt that life SUCKS, but as the years go by I am excited about every day's challenges! I am also grateful for the past years with all the many blessings that I have received. For me LIFE IS GREAT!
Watch this video, it is fun!

Night Cycling Reflections 2

Can't believe the journey planning Night Cycling is over so quickly, it seem only like yesterday that we started planning and looking back at it was a pleasant experience left lingering in my mind. The planning process might be tough, but looking at the enthusiasm on everyone’s faces during the start of the event and the sense of satisfaction that was felt by everyone made everything that the Night Cycling committee had done worth while.

I would like to thank the committee, officers and friends who walked with me these past few weeks of planning without your encouragement, contributions and help nothing would have come out it. To all the GLs and AGLs who had guided the freshies thank you for your effort. Finally, to all freshies that had turned up for the event thanks for your participation which made this event a successful one. We hope you have enjoyed the night cycling experience and continue to come join us for future events.

Till then, take care and see you all for the next event or outing.

Food Junction Thoughts 3

As the first rays of sunlight kiss the surface of the dirt filled roads that brings together the famous Geylang, endless streams of poly students in blue T-shirt flowed out of the Aljunied MRT station like raging waters.

Swinging from coffee shops to coffee shops, we set out on merciless quest, in search of food. One by one, wandering eyes fix themselves, in curiosity; nonetheless, we pushed on, accomplishing task after task.

Upon completion, we rushed back to our starting point to prepare an extra special concoction to welcome back the last team. Accompanied with a slice of bread, they savored our blend of herbs and spices!

All in all, it was an event not for the faint hearted, there was plenty of dirt, plenty of brains and burl in action, and plenty of tears; both out of joy and disappointment. But ultimately the point was to have fun, which we did, in fact loads of it!

Night Cycling Reflections

The night cycling event is the first night cycling I went to. It was quite a memorable experience for me as this is the first time I cycled in a group for such a long time and long distance. It was quite a challenge for me as I can’t cycle well and I stop quite a few times on the way. Initially, I thought that there would be many games on the way for us to play, something like ‘amazing race’ but actually there’s not as much games as I expected. But along the way, our group enjoyed together and helped each other which enable us to know each other more. Personally, I think the best part of the event is during supper as everyone seems full of energy at the sight of food. The GL and AGLs also put in their best effort to motivate us to cycle to the end and they are also very helpful and caring. Overall, I feel that the night cycling event is an enjoyable and memorable event for me and that I will not mind joining again.

Night Cycling 08 from East Coast Park to Changi and back was totally a brand new experience for me. Even thought there was time being delayed because there was number of people whom went for the night cycling causing jam in track, it was still an enjoyable one. Games played at certain part of the route make it more memorable rather than just cycling. The never-ending path along the airport was a challenge to me, it was long but I did not give up. Helmet was told to be wore dampen the mood of everyone, but for safety issue everyone still wore it. & the height of my seat was adjusted till I could hardly touch the ground with my foot caused me to complain all the way, but the reason for that was to avoid legs cramp. Lastly, GL & AGL was friendly and caring, thank you! (: A round of applause to all! ((:

Food Junction Thoughts 2

Food junction is a very interesting event. It can bond the various individual groups together and also test the knowledge and creativity of the members about food. I personally enjoy the event because I am able to know members from other members of primers and learn how to work and have fun together.

Food Junction Thoughts

The word ‘skeptical’ should best describe the feeling I have upon arriving at eunos MRT station for the ‘food junction’ on that day. This is due to the fact that I seriously doubt what good food I can get in this activity where losing would actually spell disaster for the losing team. Well, my guess was much to my expectations: the food we ate certain could NOT be defined as laudable. Anyway, we did have a lot of fun sweating it out under the hot weather and exploring ‘Geylang’- the notorious red light district in Singapore. We got to see what really lies in geylang other than the good food and durian…. BUT! I shall not digress as this is not part of the activity. In fact I can’t help but accede to the fact that the mini-games we played were filled with gaiety to a certain extent, the bean counting game was annoyingly long and tedious but still fun as we got to flaunt our skills at bean counting and estimation!
We also got to think of the most peculiar names for some food in order to progress in the game, which was transcendent indeed. There was definitely great teamwork involved.

I feel that our group managed to get first position not only because of our teamwork, but also under the great leadership of our GL! Yay! Kudos to our great gl. I got to know my teammates better, and I must really say we enjoyed it! Of course I must say luck is undoubtedly involved too.

A round of applause for the organizers, and all the personnel who were involved in making this event bring so much fun memories to me. And THANK YOU!
