MJ's Journey!

My journey in primers started with Welcome Party 06/07 that was the first primers event that I attended. Seriously if you asked me what we did during that event, I can’t really remember. All I remembered was that someone stepped on my foot real hard during one of the games and until today… I still can’t find that culprit. It’s so painful can but it’s okay, I shall forgive that whoever, perhaps he/she was just trying to kill a mosquito which was sucking blood out of my precious foot. I was just kidding, there was more than what I remembered from the event.

I was drawn to the togetherness of my seniors, the ones who called me down for the event. They gave me a feeling where they exist as a group and not individuals, a group which they are comfortable in, where they can be themselves. I remember feeling that I want to be one of them. We just had some very simple games but surprising I had fun=) I believed that was what primers’ event is all about, it’s never about how fun the games are, it’s the people whom we get to be with and how we can have fun through the simplest activities.

Following which, like most of you did, I attended the orientation camp then AGM then many other small events and camps. Then… TADA I became one of the EXCO member. Well, my journey in primers so far is full of ups and downs. When there are responsibilities, there bound to be difficulties too. You can be sure that “life” would not be as carefree as you are in the past, but I can assure you that you will get to learn a lot of things along the way.

In primers I had a lot of first times;

first time taking a flight, first time eating a spider,

first time building a pig pen,

First time playing with a gigantic beetle,

first time organizing a camp, first time having a group birthday celebration and finally the first time that I learnt that we can have family outside of our home.

I’ve learnt how to care and how to look at the importance of simple things.

Time passes by quickly and we all bombarded by culture that tells us and want us only to achieve big things that often cause us to overlook many people and things around us. Most of our needs can be fulfilled by just a reach of hand. Things like tap water, air conditioning, food or even toys are easily available. We are so comfortable that we forgot to appreciate and be contented of what we have.

Much of the values I’ve learnt are actually comes from the seniors and officers. Since I’ve got this chance, I would like to thank Huishan and Vimel for taking over much of my duties during times when I could not manage my work. I would also want to thank Derrick too for always being around us when we are still freshies to listen to us, Kuochun and many other seniors that helped us out in the events. Never should I forget to thank all the officers for all the guidance about running events, maintaining relationships and most importantly how to live a life. FINALLY, last of not least, the current EXCO and year2s!! Without you guys, my poly life would be so sad and boring. THANKS for bringing so much joy to me.

Now that I have shared my journey in primers, care to share yours or even create one with us?

With lots of hugs and kisses,
Meijun
