Extend A Helping Hand And Care

it is important to extend a helping hand and gestures of love to show that we still care

The visit to Mr. Seah’s home was uneventful at first but as he shared his family situation, we were able to take a few learning points back with us… Mr. Seah’s home was rather well furnished and everything seemed like a normal Thursday evening, however, we found out that there was uncertainty in the near future for his family. Here are some of their worries that Mr. Seah shared with us. Firstly, his medication is one of his major worries as the cost of it is considerably high. Secondly, he still working but his company is re-structuring their working shifts which could mean that excess people are working on single shifts, however, it requires about four months to be confirmed. We also noticed that the family has gone through a lot after Mr. Seah’s diagnosis. Despite his worries, he still takes things positively.

This visit was both an enriching and an eye-opener for all of us. We realized that although Singapore is a well-developed country, there are many people who look normal like every one of us but are struggling to make ends meet. We are so much more blessed compared to these people, it is important to extend a helping hand and gestures of love to show that we still care in such times where the financial situation is rather unstable.

Never Take Your Health for Granted

I always have the impression that cancer patients are sickly and weak (blame those soap drama) but I was proven wrong. The patient that my group visited looks healthy and normal, just like most of us. She was very lucky that her cancer was diagnosed during the early stage so her condition can be kept under control by medication.

Her husband is the sole breadwinner and it wasn’t easy for him to cover both household and medical expenses. Despite of their financial difficulty, her family and her are very positive toward her condition. They did not grumble about how bad their situation was because they know that there are others out there who are in worst situations.

Of course, family plays a very important part too. With the help and moral support from the family members, it pulled her through the tough period. I felt that with family’s support and a positive mindset, it will help us to overcome whatever difficulties we met.

Lastly, we should never take our health for granted and really take care of our health. And yes, I finally realised the importance of going for a yearly checkup so that action can be taken early if anything goes wrong.

thanks.

with tons of SMILE,

Community Service

Guys it is like 3 more days to freedom for most of u who are still struggling with your exams.
So in the midst of your exams we have this month long event called SGB, some of u have been helping out in the booth, opening and what have you. And in this season of giving, we as a family chose to give our time, sweat and even at times money to the poor and needy. But beyond that, as I was thinking, it is not so much that the recipients of our efforts that benefit more, rather it is us who are giving.

Think for just one moment, thru this journey of giving we have learnt much about the plight of those having cancer. Some of us are even going to visit some of them at their home and have a meal of sorts hearing what they have to go thru upfront. And I believe the more we know, the more we would be grateful for the things we have, our physical condition, our family situation and generally where we are right now.

So I do hope that as we serve, we will remember to learn and reflect on the different experiences in life.

Got a video to share, think about this message!
