Hi Guys,

I'm so glad to hear that it has been a wonderful journey for many of you as you serve for SGB. Lixuan, its always so encouraging to hear your share. You always find precious moments of thanksgiving to share in everythin you do. Keep going, one day you may become the next Auntie Lixuan Theresa of Singapore....:)

Just to share, I once read a story of a lady together with her 2 fellow sisters who took shelter the poor and unfortunate from the streets. One night, they found 3 homeless ladies and took them in. The leader of the group told the other 2, you take care of the other 2 ladies, let me take care of this woman (The lady in the worst condition). They wash and cleaned them. Changed them into new clothing and tug them into a nice bed and warm blankets. The lady she took care of died the next day.

But she would never forget that two words this dying woman said to her that nite. Looking at her eye to eye, she mouthed these words, "Thank you". How precious were these words from a woman who had nothing to offer, yet we know the words anyone offers in their deathbed would be the most precious. These two words burned into a movement that has since shook the world through this fine lady of the Millenium, Mother Theresa.

I hope that we will remember that in this Christmas season, coincidentally also the Season of Giving. That even through the tiring and tough times of this SGB as we all practice the spirit of giving will ultimately also receive the Spirit of Love just as Sister Theresa did that one nite. May we learn to treasure those around us, both the less fortunate as well as the friends around us.

SGB@SP - Neighbourhood Collection #2

Last Saturday was the Neighbourhood Collection for the Primers and non-primers. I must really thank those non-primers who came down today to help up in the collection. GREAT EFFORT to EVERYONE!

Okay well, met up with my class gals cum friends and cum granddaughters at Dover station. Haha. Thank a lot for sacrificing your Saturday for your ahma here. Really felt very touch! So after that, went to MLT 9 for our briefing for the collection. Whoo. That’s a lot of people, glad to know that quite a number of non-primers are joining us too. Hehe. (Thank to the publicity team because I am inside the team too. Haha!)

After Huishan’s briefing of what’s SGB Collection, waited for around half an hour or maybe more than that. But, meanwhile we had Jacob to entertain the rest of us by playing spot the differences game. When the grouping was out, we finally know our grouping; guess what, we were in Vimel group. (a blessing or a disaster? Haha. Just kidding) Vimel is a great IC, take good care of us (: Finally, we boarded the bus and reached Yew Tee to our area for collection. I think it was a great experience for everyone in the group including me too.

Door-to-door collection is something that I did not come across. You get to know how it is when you went approaching those residents. Some can be nasty and some can be very friendly. For me, I think most of them are kind people. Some of them were not at home but they make an effort to put their food items outside the door.

To my surprise, there was even one resident waiting for me at the door. Wahh. This is awesome! How I wish everyone can be like them. Of course there was one irritating one who let his cats out just to scare us away. (NOTICE: BIG FAT flurry cat)

Lastly, the overall collection was FUN and great EXPERIENCE for everyone in the group. Although it was tiring but I am sure we are enjoying the whole event and I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to my girls. Jasmine, Paula, Yick Moey, Ee Lin, Jun Ling, Poh Ling, Shi Yun and Ke Xuan and not forgetting the only MAN in the group Vimel Rajoo! (:

SGB@SP - Neighbourhood Collection

It was Neighbourhood Collection (part of Sharity Gift Box @ SP) last Saturday! I was involved in helping to go door-to-door and collect food items from residents living in Yew Tee.

Upon reaching Yew Tee, we had a short briefing on what needs to be done later on. Soon after, everyone wasted no time in starting with the collection. Because it was the first time for many of us to do a door-to-door collection of items, it was somewhat awkward to approach residents at their doorsteps and ask them politely whether they have any items to donate. After awhile, things got much easier as we got used to all the knocking on doors of the residents.

Initially, there was not many items we could collect from the residents, which were quite disappointing. However, as we proceeded on to the next few blocks, the amount of items we collected were overwhelming! Residents after residents got more and more generous, much to our delights. During the collecting of food items, we somehow caught a glimpse of the many different sides of Singaporeans. Some were extremely kind, where they had already prepared the items way beforehand as soon as they found out about this collection. People who did not know of our collection just gathered what they could offer on the spot, and an aunty even offered us a plastic bag so we could hold all our items inside to make things easier for us!

Every good comes with bad, and of course, we met with crude residents as well! Someone slammed a door at one of us and some refused to open the door. Others took an extremely long time to just get themselves to speak to us because they were lazy to get to their doors.

Through all these encounters with people, it is quite evident that besides those realistic people who only cared about their own welfare, there were still kind souls who would try to do their part to help the poor people in their country!

It is actually quite heart-warming for us to know that and the whole collection event had certainly made most of our day.

I guess many of us had joined SGB @ SP for CCA points or to fulfil our CIP hours. However, at the end of this event, many of us would have changed our points of view. Even if there were no CIP hours to fill, no CCA points to earn, I believe most of us would still get ourselves involved in this meaningful event!
