Trippers and helpers came down after their lessons to help set-up the place and do the last touched-up. Everyone gathered at 7.30pm and prepared to welcome the guests. The guests were welcomed by the friendly receptionists where they will receive their booklets & door gift as a token of appreciation. The door gift was a DVD that includes the photos taken at Cambodia.
Then, the passionate tour guides guided the guests through the gallery to view the pictures drawn by the Cambodia kids, photos taken in Cambodia and also a set of dirty clothes that they brought back from Cambodia. Each of them drew on a mahjong paper of their reflections after they came back. At the end of the tour, guests were invited to sign on the guestbook that has a whole collection of photos.
The show started at 8pm when our Emcees, Qingyan & Jeffrey, came on stage in their kampong style costumes to greet our guests and invite Shenglong to give a speech. The 3 main highlights of the whole Afterglow were the skit, talk show and sing-a-long. The skit was started with PCK (Vimel) as the contractor of this whole project Cambodia and brought the Singbodians into the different problems that they faced during the trip.
First, it tells that the Singbodians (Shenglong, Bernard & Lixuan) were received by 2 Cambodia girls (Juli & Meijun) in their traditional handsign. They met with the problem of warm weather that Lixuan cannot stand and fainted. However, the helpful Primers bring her off the stage to rest. It was very spectacular with the effect of the fake sun, the light effect and the sound effect. It brings the real feel of the red hot sun.
The 2nd problem that they faced was injuries. It was portrayed by Sunderason and Mark on how they help each other in time when they were injured. The last problem was the fear of beetle. At this point of time, there was a GIANT beetle (Jeffrey) flying out to Weiqiang & Chunyuan. However, this guys were tough and they killed the beetle. In all, this skit was very amusing and entertaining. It did not even need to make the extra effort to bring laughers to the audiences yet the audiences can just laugh out loud.
Next up was a talk show by Bernard, Meijun. Lixuan, Mark & Chunyuan. They shared their experience in Cambodia. This talk show brought a different feel of the whole Afterglow. It was a sharing yet it was lively. There were jokes and emotions in this talk show were more interactive than any other talk show i had watched. They were all sharing from their heart without scripts or even points to hold on to.
Between these program, there was video and PowerPoint photo slides done up by Zhiyuan and Sunderason. It was a job well done. They had burned their nights just to do a good presentation on the kids and time they had in Cambodia. And in this slides, you come to realize another world out there and how wonderful it can be to serve the community.
Finally, it was the sing-a-long session led by Lixuan. The Singbodians had learnt a few songs back in Cambodiaand had brought them back to Singapore to share with the rest of their families, friends and Primers. The 2 songs were 'This is the Day' and 'Father Abraham'. They sang it with energy and joy. The whole Afterglow ended with a song 'Thank God i found you'.
Indeed, it was a tough journey if they had went through it alone. But Thank God that they had found each other in this trip.
To close, this Afterglow had really allow the Singbodians to share their experiences that they had in Cambodia with people who have not experience it and I believe they are proud of what they had done.
