Night Cycling 2009 Photos

Reflection: Night Cycling - Shi Jun's Group

This is the first time I ever tried night cycling and overall, it was a great experience! I was in a wonderful team with Shijun as my GL and Nicholas as my AGL. Initially there were a few members that I was not very familiar with, but during the night cycling, I got to know them much better. We also played ice breaker games before the night cycling started and also during breaks if possible. There were checkpoints where we played some games and also water points for us to hydrate ourselves and refill our water bottles.

Personally, as this was the first time I joined a night cycling event, I was not really expecting the journey to be so long. It was really quiet at night and sometimes it got really tedious to cycle on. The quiet and breezy atmosphere made me feel sleepy and many of us were starting to feel tired and our muscles ached as the night went on. I was about to fall asleep but luckily I had Shijun for company as we both cycled side by side throughout the entire journey. Shijun had brought a portable speaker and the music was what kept me awake.

We also had a lot of fun joking together while cycling. Also, we raced each other to get ourselves to move faster. We talked a lot to each other to keep ourselves occupied as keeping quiet and cycling alone can get quite boring. I loved the sound of the wind in my ears, the sound of the leaves rustling and also the sound of the crickets. The breeze was cooling and the night was very quiet and serene. As we were cycling on the “never ending road”, we heard a lot of airplanes fly by as we cycled past Changi airport. It was just a beautiful sight to see all the airplanes and the lights that lit up the airport.

I was eagerly looking forward to the finish line because I was so worn out. By the time we reached the finishing line I was silently cheering inside for I managed to complete the night cycling event and was able to keep awake throughout the entire journey. I felt very accomplished because I thought I would get really grumpy while cycling due to the lack of sleep. But instead, I had a lot of fun and I didn’t feel tired at all with the music constantly playing.

Overall, the night cycling was a tiring yet enjoyable experience. I felt that through this event, I got to bond more with my team members and most importantly, I believe that we displayed qualities of team work as we all provided some form of support to one another and cheered on each other when we were getting sleepy and very tired.

Reflections: Photo Hunt - Wensze's Group

My overall experience today was rather fun. It started off pretty awkward as I don't really know my team members. But during the photo hunt, I get to interact with them and making friends with them, making this event even more enjoyable. However, the weather was not accommodating.

It was a really hot day as we moved from places to places. However, I would rather choose such weather then raining because it would really then cause a lot of hassle. In this reflection, I would want to highlight 2 special moments our group had that make it so memorable.

1st: while moving from the esplanade towards the city link, my GL( wensze) went forward to the automatic door, hoping that it would open for her. The catch here is that she was standing at the position where the censor could not sense her and thus the door did not open. She was giving a "eh? why never open?" kind of look and we all laugh.

2nd: In Suntec city, we were supposed to find a shop called Dickson. Knowing how big the whole Suntec city mall is, we decided not to try to look for it blindly and asked the concierge and look for the directory to find its exact location. The funny part here is that one of my group members came up to me and said "your looking for Dickson right....isn’t it this one?" i stopped looking at the directory and bend my body abit to the right , just to see that the shop behind the pillar in front of me was DICKSON . The whole group was laughing really hard as we didn’t expect it to be so easily spotted.

To conclude, Photo hunt was definitely more enjoyable then i expected at first. Also, I learnt about the ways to move about the city faster and know alot more interesting places in town which I did not knew.

Reflections: Photo Hunt - Sebestian's Group

Overall, I found this photo hunt event very challenging and fun at the same time. But the weather was so so hot! My Game Master (GM) is Sebastian. It was good that at the start of the hunt, he told us that he wouldn’t reveal the other photos and didn’t want us to cheat. The instructions given about the hunt is very clear. We appointed a Group Leader (GL), Kee Min. Our photographer is Aisyah.

The starting point of our hunt was outside Bugis National Library. Upon receiving our first photo, our group was completely stunned by it. We started looking around and made wild guesses. We tried asking for help at the information counter at the Library, but they said that they cannot tell us. Then we decided to try Funan IT Mall. On the way there, we looked out for the bonus pictures. Then our GM gave us a clue on where the place is. One of our members figured it out immediately and we hurried there. On the way to Millenia Walk, we found quite a number of bonus pictures. Hurray! As we went from places to places, we got more tired and warm. The places were so “merry-go-round”-ish. After every photo, our GM will give us a new photo. And some photos were places where we walked pass before and we have to walk all the way back to the same place.

Despite all the walking, our GL is always in the front of the group. I was speeding along behind her and the other group members will trail behind and eventually catch up. Some photos were so impossible to find, the bonus pictures were so tricky. For example the bicycle picture, I thought it would be on ground-level, outside a building. But it was a display item in a shopping mall. Fortunately, one of our group members spotted it the minute we entered the mall.

Hurrah! At Funan IT mall, I was walking in front, searching for the Barney machine thingy beside a candy machine. We found a machine thingy, but it was not Barney. It was some other cartoon. We doubted it, but we figured that they changed the machine thingy. So we just took a photo of it. We walked to the Memorial Tower thing two times, back and forth.

We were walking through Citylink to get to the Memorial thing. Kee Min found a stairway up as a shortcut to the tower. Enthusiastically, we raced up the stairs. True enough, it was a really good shortcut. But we couldn’t use that stairs because one of our group members was wearing skirt. Then we walked further up to another shortcut to the tower. So, we walked all the way back down again.

After the Memorial Tower thing, we had to walk back to Marina Square. Some of us were complaining and whining. But we still managed to drag ourselves there. Some of us quenched ourselves with Bubble Tea. We concluded that our last stop would be the stop right beside the ending point (Esplanade) which is the Marina Square one. Many of us sat under the shade to wait for our dearest GL and photographer and our GM to search for the last photo. One of my group members sat beside me in the sun to wait for them.

We were so tired that we were lazy to get up into the shade. They hunted for quite long, but they didn’t manage to find it. Good effort though. Then Alex said he might have seen the photo on the other side of the building, so he ran there with another one of our group members to look for it. However, they didn’t find it. So, we declared that we finished. (If I’m not wrong, I think I’m wrong, we finished 5 stations only, out of a possible 10 stations) We assembled on the top floor of the Esplanade and ta-daa! Finito!

During the prize presentation, when they announced that our group got first and tied with two other groups, we were all shocked and surprised. All I heard from the rest of us were, “Cannot be... Cannot be..” and “Oh my gosh, really?!” Personally, I was surprised as well.

I think everyone of us in the group did contribute to the surprising win for the group. I think we won because of the bonus pictures. When we concentrated on the bonus pictures, our GM asked us to concentrate on the main pictures. Then our group members will constantly look out for the bonus pictures. During the whole journey, there were lots of complaints like, “Very hot!”, “Huh, go back there again!”...etc. Finally, thank you GM for guiding us!
