The SL Messenger

If I were to recount my journey in Primers, I would do it in the form of an MSN chat with the different participants as Sheng Long in his different stages of Polytechnic life. Here it goes:

[Must-always-look-at-campus-map-freshie] Long in Year1 Sem1 says:
I still want to serve in my secondary school as a BB officer but the Primers program seems so boring and lame. It looks like some CCA that exists just for the sake of existing. Anyway this CCA cannot make it lah. I seriously don’t feel like committing myself.

[Not-so-fresh-but-still-quite-fresh] Long in Year1 Sem2 says:
I also think like you last time but maybe I was wrong, Primers is still kind of cool to be in but the only issue is… how come nobody wants to join! There are simply too few members to portray ourselves as vibrant.

[Senior-abit-and-likes-to-laugh-at-freshie] Long in Year2 Sem1 says:
Ok then. Shall we try to recruit people in? But I do not have much confidence whether they want to join or not. Primers still don’t look and sound attractive enough. Hmm

[Quite-senior-and-on-Primer] Long in Year2 Sem2 says:
I also don’t know what to advertise to you guys. But to me, Primers is a family. Then you will ask me in what ways? And I will say there is no point telling you how good it is, you must come and experience it yourself!

[Old-bird-but-still-cannot-fly] Long in Year3 Sem1 says:
Yeah I agree. You have to come and see for yourself. Maybe give us one year of your time? More and more people are catching the vision already, you can too.

[Old-bird-flying-out-of-sp-soon] Long in Year3 Sem2 says:
Maybe I have to add one disclaimer inside and that is that this journey is not a fairy tale journey that most of you would expect. There are bound to be fights, disagreements, conflicts and even pride between one another. But all these allow you to grow and let you realize that through them, we still love one another. That is what a family is like isn’t it?

[Graduated-with-diploma-in-aeronautical-engineering] Long sends:

Guys I graduated already! I know you are proud of me. Thanks for being so supportive all these while. I made it! I will still serve in Primers as long as I can… simply because I want to invest my time into the lives of youths today.

[Serving-the-nation] Long says:
Yup, that was how my journey in Primers is like! But that’s not the end. I will still join you guys as much as I can afford to. Do keep me in prayers while I am in Tekong ok?

[Serving-the-nation] Long sends:
Tuesday Group1_001.jpg (45.5kb)

Anyway, this is a real special group of people to me besides the exco. It is the group that is always there, be it ups or downs. It is also the group where we share the most time and bond together in Primers and there is only one such group and its call the Tuesday Group!

[Serving-the-nation] Long says:
There is also the officers who are there to guide and teach. I’ve learn so much from them in my years in Primers. Although I was the President, I will also get scolded for doing the wrong things but it adds another dimension of accountability to the club which is good.

[Serving-the-nation] Long says:
Of course I will not forget the exco that has been slogging with me over the past years. I understand that it is never easy to ‘start’ a club but I believe we did well. Thanks for all the late nights rushing out proposals and stuff. I do appreciate it a lot. To the new exco, I believe you guys have the potential to even better us. So go for it. Do the things with an “I want” attitude instead of an “I need to” attitude.

[Serving-the-nation] Long says:
To the whole of Primers, I just want to tell you that all these that I’ve typed are not gimmicks to let you join more events, love the club more etc. but it is really to tell you my journey and share my heartbeat. I strongly believe that if there is no Primers in my poly life, my school life would be such a chore chasing after that piece of paper and I wouldn’t find much meaning in it.

[Serving-the-nation] Long says:
Continue to discover yourself and find out who you really are and what you can become. I would love to talk more but I am pressing for time. See you soon my friends and family. Take care and God bless.
