Nick - Life Without Limbs

A man with no arms and limbs, yet he is living his life to the fullest. This is the impression that Nick Vujicic gave me when I saw him at Max Pavilion on 2nd Dec.

I was shock when I first saw his video. “How can he be so happy”, I asked myself. In my opinion, there is nothing one can really do much when he or she is without limbs. The worst thing is, does he even have a future? No arm and legs. That the worst thing it can happen to our life. But yet he proofs me wrong by the life he is living.

Nick was born in Sunnybank, Brisbane, Australia, missing both arms at shoulder level, and having one small foot with two toes protruding from his left thigh.
He learned to write using the two toes on his left "foot", and a special device that slid onto his big toe to grip. He also learned to use a computer and type using the "heel and toe" method. He can also throw tennis balls, and answer the phone.

Being bullied at his school, Nick grew extremely depressed, and by the age of eight, he started contemplating suicide. After begging God to grow arms and legs, Nick eventually began to realize that his accomplishments was to be inspirational to many, and began to thank God he was alive. When he was seventeen, he started to give talks at his prayer group, and eventually starting his non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs.

He shares with us that his source of strength and reason for living is God. He says God never looks at how smart or rich or famous or good looking we are. God looks at us the same way for everybody. Every one of us is the apple of His eyes. Thus we shall not be bought down by man’s passing comments but to keep our eyes focus on God, the one who created us.

One thing I take home was that it is not about changing the condition we are in. But it’s about changing our heart. There is no point in changing the condition because when everything repeats itself again, we will be defeated once more. It’s about being victorious in the heart and overcoming the situation.
To me, Nick is really awesome. He displays the strong will of living and impacting people’s life. He certainly spurs me to do the same as he did.

If you miss him out during the 2nd Dec talk, be sure to catch his video here.

Have a blessed Christmas. =)
